We usually have one event every month except August (when many people are away) and December (when most organists are occupied with extra services).
Saturday 21st June: Organ visit to West Dartmoor (organised by Andrew Millington)
10.00 St James, Christow, EX6 7LZ. Vowles 2man/ped, tracker. (coffee at 11am ). Village Hall car park nearby.11.30 St Thomas Beckett, Bridford EX6 7HT. Father Willis 2 man/ ped, tracker. Large carpark at Village Hall nearby, toilet at Village hall. 12.45 Lunch at the Bridford Inn, same postcode. Saturday 12th July: President’s Event 3pm Crediton P.C. EX17 2AQ
This is an enjoyable social event with Nigel and Tina Guthrie, who will give a small recital, tea and cakes will be available.
Saturday 20th September (afternoon): Educational event at Buckfast Abbey TQ11 0EE with PipeUp Devon
We hope to encourage youngsters who play keyboards to take up the organ. David Davies will be leading the event, hope you will come along to support it.
Saturday 4th October: Visit to Exmouth (tbc)
Still in the planning stage, but we hope to visit some churches in Exmouth, possibly the delightful Point of View Chapel EX8 5BD with a pulpit organ, then St. John the Evangelist EX8 3 AE, Lunch, then Glenorchy EX8 1PL finishing at All Saints EX8 1PX.
Thursday 6th November: Annual Dinner at Devon Hotel EX2 8XU, 7pm for 7:30pm
Due to the overwhelming response we will be returning to the Devon Hotel again; the speaker will be Tim Parsons, organist at Wells Cathedral.
In a typical year . . .
. . . we organise:
~ A visit to Exeter Cathedral for members to play the cathedral organ (usually January)
~ A quiz night with bring-and-share supper in a local pub (usually February)
~ Two or three organ crawls, usually in the south west
~ The AGM followed by a pub lunch (usually May)
~ The President's Evening (usually June) - this might, for instance, be a concert by a visiting organist or choir and usually involves refreshments.
~ A talk or lecture, illustrated at the organ (Andrew Millington, The organ music of Edward Elgar (2018); Andrew Millington, The organ music of Herbert Howells (2019); Peter King, English organ music 1920-2020 to mark the association's centenary in 2020
~ In some years there is a residential trip
~ Annual Dinner with guest speaker (usually November) - recent speakers have included David Halls, Timothy Noon, Peter King, Canon Christopher Palmer, David Owen Norris
